Cloudy with showers and warm weather over the weekend

Cooler in the north of Birmingham, warmer in the south: that and a few scattered showers make up the bulk of the weather through Saturday. Check out the video forecast for the latest news. SATURDAY OUTLOOK Temperatures: This cool front in the area causes a large temperature swing from one location to another. We expect to be close to 70°F on Saturday in Birmingham, but close to 80°F in the Montgomery area, and only in the 50s north of Cullman in Huntsville, Decatur and The Shoals. Patchy Saturday Showers: That cooler area in northern Alabama is also where there is the best chance of rain on Saturday. The overall impact of rain is minimal: just a few hundredths to a tenth of an inch where light, patchy showers pass. It’s possible to get a little bit of rain across the state, but your best chance is closer to the Alabama-Tennessee border. ACTIVE PATTERN AHEAD Sunday warms up a bit and brings a bit more sun – highs in the low 70s with a light southwesterly breeze. A stray rain shower or two may unfold on Sunday afternoon, but it doesn’t change the plan! Another powerful wind machine from a storm system moves in on Monday. Any time such a strong storm is near, we carefully look at the risk of severe storms. That threat is low Monday in Alabama, but it’s not exactly zero. If the threat increases over the weekend, we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as possible! Severe weather aside, Monday is looking very windy again – 30+ MPH gusts with a band of showers and thunderstorms arriving in the afternoon and early evening. It gets cooler and drier on Tuesday. More showers return on Wednesday, but potentially stormy weather arrives Thursday through Friday of next week.
