Attack-minded left-back Alex Moreno hopes to torment Premier League defenses with his incredible pace after joining Aston Villa.
The Spanish defender was signed for around £13m during the January transfer window as Unai Emery got his first chance to start reshaping the squad he inherited from Steven Gerrard. Moreno is a proven player in La Liga, winning the Copa del Rey with Real Betis.
One of the greatest attributes of the Spaniard is his dizzying pace. As reported in an interview with the athletic, Moreno’s top speed is an impressive 34.5 km/h (21.5 mph). To put that in context, new Chelsea signing Mykhailo Mudryk has posted the fastest speed in the Premier League this season at 36.6km/h (22.7mph).

“The staff knows everything about my sprints and short distance runs and they continue to monitor the measurements,” Moreno said.
“They also send me videos to study that help me learn more about where the coach wants me to be when I’m defending or attacking. This is my motivation to improve.”
Having tasted cup glory with Betis, Moreno is determined to do the same at Villa, although he will have to wait until at least next season.
“I get goosebumps just talking about it,” he said about winning the Copa del Rey. “It was incredible and a feeling that every player should want to experience. The joy of winning a cup competition like that is special. Seeing how happy he made the fans was amazing too. It’s something I want to replicate here.”
On his goals with Villa, Moreno added: “The manager said that the minimum we were competing for was a place in Europe and to be as high as possible in the league. There are some massive clubs in this league, but we are also one of them. We are a great club and I can see the project coming together.”
