It remains to be seen who will lead Birmingham City this summer transfer window, but John Eustace is already making it clear what he wants in the transfer window.
The Blues have been the subject of takeover speculation for much of this season, but nothing has materialized so far.
As things stand, there is hope that a Keith Pelley-led deal can be worked out in the relatively near future, with talks of a deal worth around £35m.
Of course, with what has gone before in recent years in the Blues, few fans will be excited about that happening until it does and manager Eustace will feel the same way, which of course is frustrating when he wants to be planning the summer window. and making signings.
Eustace has done a solid job this year in the face of some difficulties off the field and has made it clear that one of the operations he wants to carry out in the near future is for Dion Sanderson, with the defender as the protagonist on loan to the Wolves club in La Premier League.
Sanderson is currently injured and will be out for several weeks, but he has already made a big enough impression that Eustace wants to keep him at the club permanently.
Quoted by Birmingham Live, he said:
“Dion has been a fantastic player for us this season. He is a true leader, to see his development last season from when he was at QPR to now is fantastic. He knew he had that in his locker, so we brought him in at the start of the season.
“He is a player we want to keep and losing him now until the end of the season is a huge blow for us. However, he is now giving someone else the opportunity to step up and lead by example. I’m pretty sure he’ll be out for much of the rest of the season.
“I absolutely want the club to consider signing him. He is injured, but he is a young player who has had a fantastic season so far. I think he has shown his worth, the fans love him very much, like everyone here at the football club ”.
This, then, should serve as a message for whoever runs the club this summer.
Of course, part of the message is that he wants to sign Sanderson, but he also wants to work now in terms of targets, identify them and set plans.
With ownership up in the air, those plans naturally can’t be properly formalized until the boardroom is resolved and Eustace evidently wants it resolved soon.
He believes he will be able to attract quality signings like Sanderson to the club, and it is up to those above him to set the structure and environment for that to happen.
