NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans Track and Field program has made the trip to the Birmingham Crossplex in Alabama for the third time this season as they prepare for the 2023 Southland Indoor Championships on Sunday and Monday.

Both the men’s and women’s programs are looking to build on back-to-back “best results” at the Southland indoor championships. Two years ago, the Privateer men finished in eighth place with 40 points before finishing fourth with 97 points last season. The women finished the 2021 Southland Indoor Championships in fifth place with a then-best 49 points, before finishing in fifth place with 78 points.

New Orleans has won nine singles so far heading into the Championship, with Alimot Alowonle (3rd Long Jump, 5th Triple Jump), Irene Bonanomi (10º 800m), sarinity bracey (6th 60m hurdles), Javier Montero Castillejo (tenth mile), Kelvin Chiku (3rd 800m), ellis cummings (9º 60m), kay cardigan (8º 3000m), jaden forester (1st mile, 5th 3000m, 7th 800m), Vivette Green (3º 60m), ryan guenthner (10 3000m), matthew hansen (6th 3000 m, 8th mile), helen baumgarten (5º 60m with hurdles), aisha johnson (9º 60m), cade litolff (seventh mile), Ana Martin (9th mile), Tshwanelo Maruping (6th mile), kolyn saltzman (1st 3000m), jayden sloan (6th 400m), Nicholas Smith (7th Triple Jump, 10th Long Jump), Alexandra Weir (1st 3000m, 3rd mile, 4th 800m), all with the top 10 times in Southland heading into the Championships.
