Sir Rod Stewart fans were left disappointed after the musician was forced to cancel a show due to illness. Sir Rod was scheduled to perform in Geelong in Australia for his next tour date on Saturday afternoon (March 18), but he announced later that day that he had been advised not to sing.
The 78-year-old singer would take the stage with Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens as the opening act. However, just six hours before the performance, Sir Rod tweeted that he had contracted a viral infection affecting his throat and preventing him from singing.
A statement shared by the three musicians on Instagram told fans that there would be a new announcement, early next week, about the concert arrangements. Many fans responded to the announcement wishing the musician a speedy recovery.

Record label Live Nation and Roundhouse Entertainment said: “Live Nation and Roundhouse Entertainment regret to announce that tonight’s performance by Rod Stewart, Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens at the Mt Duneed Estate, Geelong will not take place due to illness.
“We apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience to ticket holders. A further announcement regarding the concert arrangements will be made early next week.”
In a follow-up statement, posted on Twitter and Instagram, Sir Rod further explained why the show was cancelled. “Hello my friends”, he wrote him.
“I am absolutely bummed to disappoint my fans who purchased tickets to A Day On The Green. I was informed late this morning that I have a viral infection and my throat is too sore to sing.
“I’m only human and sometimes I get sick like you. My greatest joy is performing for you, so I’m doing everything I can to recover and get back on stage.”
Fans urged the 78-year-old to “stay safe” as many commented that they would rather look good than perform. One fan said: “Rod, my friend has given us fans, audiences, so many concerts, so many loving memories.
“Life is all about being healthy and without it you can’t perform for your beloved fans, it’s an event! I’d rather you get better so that I and many others can continue to enjoy you and your performances.”
Another added: “You human? Never! Always listen to your body and your doctor’s orders!”
“If they’re your true fans, they notice things happen! I hope you feel better very soon!”
“I wish you a speedy recovery and I send you loving hugs and kisses,” said another.
