Wayne Rooney has revealed that he knows Manchester United players enjoy working for a “demanding” Erik ten Hag, having spoken to some of them during his visits to Carrington this season.
Ten Hag was named after the worst season at Old Trafford for decades, but managed to inspire a remarkable turnaround in fortunes, which has seen the club reach the Carabao Cup final and progress to third in the Premier League.
Although there were questions as to whether the dressing room would respond to his disciplinary approach, Ten Hag is bringing out the best in each player and it has created a feeling of genuine togetherness at Carrington.

Rooney now manages DC United in MLS, but remains a United supporter and is impressed with Ten Hag.
The United legend praised the improvements the Dutchman has made so far this season and also revealed that he has had conversations with players at the club who say they enjoy working for him.
“He (Ten Hag) is what Manchester United have needed for a few years,” Rooney told ESPN. “I’ve been to the training camp a few times, especially in the (MLS) off-season when I was back home in England, and I talked to some of the players.
“I know the players enjoy working with him, which is always important, but he demands a lot from his players. I think he has changed the mindset and the confidence and belief of the players, that they are actually a good team.”
“And I think people are starting to see that this season and they’re in a good position. They’re five points out of first, you know there are still a lot of games to play so you never know.”
“Ten Hag is changing the culture at Manchester United and finally looks like the best possible candidate to regenerate the Ferguson legacy. The main component, the need to establish a competitive, nurturing and disciplined culture, is finally back.
“I think it’s important for any manager to create a good atmosphere. Sometimes it’s harder than it seems. I think Ten Hag has managed to keep all the players engaged, and the players coming off the bench are also having an impact.” . so the culture and character that he’s passing on to the players is what’s been needed for a while.”
