Fire crews were called this afternoon (Saturday March 18) to an industrial fire in Forest Road, Mansfield. Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted “avoid area and if affected by smoke close doors and windows” after the blaze started half an hour ago.

Currently attended by teams from Mansfield, Ashfield, Blidworth, Edwinstowe, Hucknall, Arnold, Warsop, Shirebrook, Maltby, Kibworth, Stapleford, Chesterfield, Worksop and Highfields at Forest Road.


Roads are closed along Nottingham Road, Forest Road and Sandhurst Avenue. Nearby properties along Forest Road and Sandhurst Avenue are also being evacuated.

The evacuation center has been opened for residents.

Nottinghamshire Police have informed residents who have been evacuated due to the fire that an evacuation center is now open.

From 7pm the evacuation center will open at The Oak Tree Leisure Centre, on Jubilee Way South.

Chief Inspector Amy Styles-Jones, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Fortunately, there are no reports of injuries, but neighboring streets have been evacuated as a precaution.

“The Oak Tree Leisure Centre, on Jubilee Way South, will open from 7pm as a place of safety for members of the public affected by the fire.

“This incident is likely to continue for some time, so avoid the area if possible.”

The evacuation center has been opened.

Residents evacuated from their homes have been informed that an evacuation center is now open, Notts Police say:

Emergency services were called to Forest Road, Mansfield, at around 3:48pm today (18 March 2023), following reports of a fire. This is an ongoing incident and we are assisting fire crews from Nottinghamshire Fire and Service as they tackle the blaze.

100 firefighters are on the scene

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Department said: “To enable us to address the incident on Forest Road safely, we have had to isolate local power facilities. Parts of Forest Road, Sandhurst Avenue, Bessemer Drive and Nottingham Road are without power. The electricity will be restored as soon as possible. as it is safe to do so We thank local residents for their patience.

“Currently, we have over 100 firefighters on the scene.

“There have been no reports of injuries.”

“We just saw a big black ball of smoke”

23-year-old Max Eaton was driving through Mansfield when he saw smoke and pulled over to see what had happened.

He said:

When we were driving we could smell the smoke through the car. I was like, ‘what’s that?’

We just saw a big black ball of smoke.”

Residents have been evacuated

Phillip Arnold, a 79-year-old retiree, has been evacuated from his property, he said: I’ve never seen anything like it and I’ve been it for 50 years. My house is just a few doors away.

They came and knocked on my door and said we have to evacuate. I’ve been here for about 3 hours now.”

Residents have been warned to stay at home.
