The Carousel is a community interest company founded in 2019. With the goal of building a caring, friendly and accessible art space in a downtown location, The Carousel has since grown into a community of artists, freelancers and remote workers. Students have written dissertations, freelancers have organized events, companies have grown and joint projects have been developed, all under our roof.

As well as building our community and revamping our space, we run workshops, engage people with creativity and skill building, showcase 104 artists, distribute over £18,000 to creatives, record over 89 hours of DJ sets, 8000 people worldwide The world viewed our exhibits online, we organized three small festivals, produced street art projects, took over larger music festivals and a corner of John Lewis Nottingham and drank an estimated 7024 liters of coffee.

69% of employees who work from home experience symptoms of burnout.

Community Work Day is a crowdfunding campaign to provide free access to The Carousel to remote workers, freelancers, small business owners, and anyone else who may need a community-run workplace. Hosted by The Carousel once a week, Community Work Day aims to support people who are struggling with the modern work climate and looking for a change of environment.

1676895775_the_carousel_internal_2_-_photograph_by_tom_morley.jpgStudies show that 81% of those under 35 feared the loneliness of long-term home-based work.

Our current members have told us that working from The Carousel has: Reduced their stress levels, as they are able to rationalize issues with their peers, Helped balance their work life, Allowed them to work on collaborative projects, and Reduced feelings of isolation while doing new friendships. In an increasingly remote world, Community Work Day aims to bring people together.

To celebrate Community Work Day, we need to raise funds to pay staff, support snack costs, and contribute to building utilities. Throughout the cost of living crisis, The Carousel has been hit by a 23% increase in its utility bills, while at the same time losing members as their individual spending has increased. In particular, early career professionals (who now cannot afford a membership) are at risk of reduced opportunities; maybe even to give up your aspirations. Community Service Day will help us keep The Carousel’s increased expenses while helping others who are struggling in the current economic climate.

Our Campaign has been selected for matching funding by The Co-operative Bank. For every donation you make they will match it. If we raise £5,000 in pledges, this will double to £10,000, allowing us to run Community Work Day for 8 months.

So we can go even further and help more people, we want to run this project for 1 year, plus add a free monthly ‘Community Play Day’. We can do it if we hit an ambitious target of £20,000!
