The squad that Sheffield Wednesday selects to face Charlton Athletic today will be a lighter man than the one that faced MK Dons last week.

While manager Darren Moore will be pleased he doesn’t have to deal with new injury concerns, he won’t be able to count on Marvin Johnson against the Addicks.

The news that Johnson would miss three games after being charged by the FA for inappropriate and/or violent conduct only came at 3pm on Friday. However, Moore will no doubt have been planning for that eventuality, unwanted as it was.

On the injury front, Mallik Wilks still remains out of the picture for the Owls. The former Hull City striker has not featured since the FA Cup defeat at Fleetwood earlier in the month with a calf injury that he picked up in training.

Providing an update at his pre-match press conference, which took place a couple of hours before Johnson’s announcement, Moore said: “With Mallik, we’ll see how next week goes and see if we can get him out again.” over there. I’ve seen him outside jogging, but hopefully he’ll start making strides next week onwards.”

That means Wilks remains out of contention along with fellow injured players Callum Paterson, Ben Heneghan and Michael Ihiekwe. Youngsters like Sean Fusire and Rio Shipston could return to substitutes on the bench for the Owls at the Valley as they look to extend their league unbeaten run to 20 games and thereby set a new club record.
