Widnes Vikings registered the highest attendance during the last round of Championship action since their clash against Toulouse.
3,093 fans turned out at DCBL Stadium as John Kear’s side fell to an agonizing 14-12 home defeat, with Paul Marcon scoring the winner in the dying minutes of the game. The Vikings had won 12-10 until the 77th minute.
Bradford recorded the second-highest crowd of the weekend, with 3,004 in attendance at Odsal Stadium for their 32-18 win over Sheffield.
The Bulls boast an average home attendance of 3,899 after four home league games so far in 2023.
Elsewhere in the Championship
Halifax recorded its biggest crowd of the year so far with 2,123 at The Shay on Sunday. Simon Grix’s side claimed a 34-10 win over Keighley, their fourth win of the season. Past assists include 2,101, 1,950 and 1,703. It gives the team a healthy 1,969 average so far in 2023.
1,090 watched at Heywood Road as Championship leaders Featherstone maintained their 100% league record with a 34-6 win over Swinton. Allan Coleman’s Lions sit 11th in the table with two wins out of six.
978 attended Kingston Park as the Newcastle Thunder lost 36-6 at home to the London Broncos. Chris Thorman’s team is just one place above the bottom of the table with a win this year.
York sat out their Round Six home clash against Whitehaven, resulting in a 14–12 defeat.
Meanwhile, Batley has been approached by i love rugby league for his attendance at Monday night’s televised game. The meeting, broadcast live by ViaPlay Sportssaw a late venue change to Dewsbury’s Flair Stadium due to lighting problems at Batley’s home.
Barrow remains the only Championship side without a win so far in 2023, having fallen to a 24-12 finish against Craig Lingard’s side.
